TRIFREEDOM
EVERY 30 SECONDS SOMEONE
BECOMES A VICTIM
OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING
ABOUT TRIFREEDOM
In March 2010 I went along to the 'Colour' conference in Sydney which is run by Hillsong church. I listened to Christine Caine talk from the A21 campaign; her presentation outlined the heartbreaking reality of Human Trafficking that is happening now, in the 21st Century. The injustice of it really affected me and I decided I wanted to help make a difference.
From here I decided to start a charity and take a team to Port Macquarie each year to compete in the half ironman triathlon. This consists of a 1.9km swim, 90km ride and a 21km run.
We compete as individuals doing all 3 legs or in a team doing one or more of the legs of our choice.
In our first year we had 11 competitors in our team. This year, in 2014, we head to Port with a team of 120 people! As the team grows so does our ability to raise awareness and money for this growing injustice in our world today that effects all countries.
Over the past 3 years we have donated more than $110,000 to The A21 Campaign, had the priveledge to speak at Newcastle Uni, local schools and conferences, to health professionals, compete in many events, have our own Trifreedom sporting teams, and many more things that contribute to this fight.
We can’t do everything but we can all do something and by joining together we are making a significant difference in our local community and also at a global level. We are standing up and refusing to be silent about something that is not ok. We need to be a voice for those that don’t have hope. We need to make our world a safer place for generations to come.
Everyone can make a difference,
Mia Cottrell Dormer
